Delivering sustainable energy access

In early October 2015, the G20 energy ministers met for the first time that year to discuss, among other energy issues, lack of access to sustainable energy options, particularly in low-income developing countries. We have entered a historic phase in energy governance, with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Summit and the Climate Change Conference (COP21) both taking place last year, with landmark agreements made. The time is ripe to make sustainable energy access a reality for all.

This issue delivers insightful analysis into:

  • A new era of energy access
  • The renewables revolution
  • Action to reduce energy poverty
  • The constraints on rapid renewables deployment
  • Projects leading the way
  • Innovative funding mechanisms
  • Public-private cooperation: strategies for engagement
  • Prospects for concrete action
